Utunzi Project

Utunzi project supports young carers from African families affected by HIV. Activities include music and drama sessions, outreach and befriending, summer trips, homework support, advise and couselling and caring breaks. Activities run every Wednesdays: 2-5pm, Thursdays: 11-2pm (during term breaks) and every last Saturday of the month:11am- 4pm. This project is supported by the Big Lottery Fund

Safer HIV Partnership
AAF in partnership with 4 other community organisations in London was commissioned by Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham PCTs to provide HIV awareness and prevention services for African communities. AAF specifically targets at risk groups within various faith settings and African regional groupings including young people, Francophone and Horn of Africa communities. Activities include small group work, advisory services, training volunteers, condom distribution and one to one support as well as promotion of access to voluntary HIV counselling and testing. Activities run daily including weekend workshops and outreach events.

African Elderly
We support the African elderly to overcome isolation and disadvantage through organised group walks, IT training, healthy eating days and social evenings. Beneficiaries also access a range of exciting volunteering opportunities enabling them to stay active and share experiences.

Volunteers Training
AAF Pamoja volunteers training programme equips volunteers with effective outreach and advocacy skills enabling them to initiate outreach activities and promote positive user involvement aimed at building self-confidence and promoting choice.
Accredited by ASDAN and now leads to a Certificate in Community Volunteering award.Training Sessions run twice a week; Wednesdays and Thursdays

LSL African Muslim Partnership
We work in partnership with a number of Islamic faith and Cultural Centres to actively African Muslim communities in HIV awareness and prevention efforts as well as promoting access to sexual health services within their communities. Activities include health workshops, support groups, training sessions, outreach, advice and voluntary HIV testing and counselling.

Umoja Unaccompanied Minors
We recognise that unaccompanied minors often face a lot of difficulties on arrival in the UK. Umoja project supports African unaccompanied refugees aged 12-18 who are diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in London. We facilitate a weekly peer advise sessions, awareness workshops, outreach and befriending sessions as well as referrals services.

International Projects

Our community-based initiatives empower marginalized and disadvantaged Africans in the UK and Africa to overcome poverty, ill health and social injustice We are currently working with partners in Kenya and Uganda to improve lives of African children, men and women disadvantaged through poverty, ill health (HIV/AIDS), disability, illiteracy, unfair cultural practices and policies. We aim to help communities build sustainable livelihoods by supporting self-help initiatives and campaigns, providing resources, advice, training and fundraising for community projects.
